Be free of the whole control construct: the belief that you can control or be controlled. Through giving and extending, the control concept is rinsed away. In the Text of A Course in Miracles, Jesus poses the question, “Do you want freedom of the body or of the mind? For both you cannot have. Which do you value? Which is your goal?” T-22.1 This question is so direct and you might decide I want freedom of the mind. But what is freedom of the mind? David Hoffmeister shares that when you engage in mind training, you can see the control concept clearly. He saw in his own life that the concept of control was mirrored back to him in various situations. It went both ways, feeling controlled and getting the feedback that he was acting controlling. With mind training, he took responsibility for both reflections and stepped into a space of “live and let live.” Surrender, releasing any desire to control what others around you do, and see that you no longer want to manipulate or be manipulated. The best way to wash away the habits of wanting to control your body and other bodies is to hold forth an energy of giving.
