Movie Fatima: Watch the Introduction to the Online Movie Workshop on Fatima

This movie will be used to address the following themes:

Letting go of judgments and taking back projections;

Allowing myself to freely communicate:

Allowing darkness to move through

The movie Fatima is a deep example of devotion, prayer and miracles.  We do not need anything in this world. All we need is to desire God above all else. When we cease to be devoted to physical comforts and worldly achievements, our mind has one single focus to remember and experience the direct connection to God.

Before we jump in about the movie ‘Fatima’, there are three aspects to clarify:

1) What is Spiritual Awakening?

2) What are visions, apparitions, and psychic experiences?

3) What is a Holy Relationship?

What’s the context for spiritual awakening?

Spiritual Awakening is not about personality development, self-improvement or making the world a better place. We must actually realize it is about transcending a perceptual problem of complete sleep or false beliefs in which nothing is stable, reliable or consistent. There comes a point where people look around at the struggles and challenges that they're going through as part of the human condition, and sometimes the thought will cross their mind: This is hell. I am in hell.

At this point in human history, we seem to have a pandemic.

We seem to be experiencing the usual ups and downs of human emotions that are related to the challenges and the struggles of seeming to be alive on planet earth at this time.

Is there a context or bigger picture to be aware of?

To see the context, look at the lives of the saints and mystics who occasionally have experiences where they would pierce the veil of perception and have these extraordinary mystical experiences. If we look at a couple aspects of that experience, it relates very much to the movie ‘Fatima.’

Understanding what we are awakening from.

If your mind is accustomed to looking through a darkened glass, then it is by definition afraid of the light. That's why the images of the world were made: to put a veil over the light.  A Course in Miracles is basically reminding us that you are afraid of your brothers and sisters, because you are afraid of the light that is behind the veil. From the perspective of the sleeping mind, everything seems real in time and space as human beings. The light of heaven has been pushed from awareness and then the darkness that comes from believing in something other than the light, other than God, is also pushed out of awareness.  The world is a dream projected from unconscious fear. The world is a false image that appears real to a mind that is sleeping.

Healing through relationship

A Holy relationship is seeing that you share a purpose with everything and everyone that you perceive, without exception. Relationships are mirrors of the mind.  The world was made out of a belief in autonomy that you could have a separate identity, apart from Christ, the light and God. In the ego’s perception, everything and everyone must serve to maintain this illusion. It's mental slavery and the ego perpetuates this sense of mental slavery by using people, places, things and situations to reinforce separation. Everyone who comes to this world comes without a self, and then tries to make one up as he goes along. Then we start to see ‘others’ apart and different from our self.

“... you come without a self, and make one as you go along.”
-ACIM Chapter 31 – V. Self-Concept versus Self That's a fantasy trip.

That's a fictitious trip of looking for something in nothing. Of course, it always ends in disappointment, even though there's never really an ending, it's a perpetuation of looking for love where it cannot be found.

Visions or apparitions

When you have visions or apparitions, it's because there's a part of your mind that's ready to be shown that there's something much more than what this perceptual world of time and space can offer.

There have been these appearances throughout time that are very helpful. Arten and Persa appearing on Gary Renard’s couch in Maine is a kind of modern day version of visions and apparitions that someone who studies A Course in Miracles might be familiar with. Throughout the centuries these apparitions have appeared and they are striking.   When there is an appearance of a vision it seems to be beyond the commonly accepted perceptions of the world, and that's why they're so striking. You can think of it like a divine intervention to your mind to remind you that there's something way beyond this world. There's something that you have forgotten that you need to remember.

Visions are still always perceptual so, they're always just the Holy Spirit's use of symbols to reach the mind with a reminder or a message.

Experiences beyond perceptions is what we call revelation. And Jesus talks about Revelation at the beginning of his text. He talks about Revelation in the context of miracles.    Miracles are always more interpersonal. They're much more helpful at the beginning of your mind opening up because the mind has to relate to symbols. They give you a reminder of the peace, like a little snapshot of the calm that is available at any instant. That's why Jesus called his course A Course in Miracles because the miracles help stabilize your perception from being so up and down and so variable.

When the mind becomes more consistently miracle minded, you go from upside down to right side up perception. Beyond the realm of miracles there is revelation - direct union with God; A direct experience of the light beyond the veil. The light reveals itself to mind directly.

Jesus says the emotion of awe is reserved for revelation. Jesus can help with the revelation readiness. It's very rare and yet Jesus is preparing the mind to have that revelatory experience. Miracles give you a glimpse or a snapshot of the new perspective, to train your mind to come into the experience of the Holy Relationship. Holy relationship is a phenomenal teaching/learning accomplishment. You might say that your purpose as a human being in this world is to train your mind to come into the experience of the Holy Relationship.

Holy Relationship is a perspective on the world, and this perspective has to be taught and learned over and over in terms of time in order to experience it in a stable way.

Holy relationship is not a relationship between two people, it is a perspective on looking upon the whole world.

Your purpose is allowing the Holy Spirit to show you the highest state of consciousnessMiracles give you a glimpse to become more stable, but your purpose is to train your mind to come into the experience of the Holy Relationship.  Not a relationship between people but rather your relationship with the whole world. This is a perspective in which you experience everything as unified; The quantum field. The state of awareness that everything is connected. This is frightening to human beings.

Your purpose is allowing the Holy Spirit to show you the highest state of consciousness: The Happy Dream.

The top goal of Holy Relationship is forgiveness. The accomplishment of forgiveness is Holy Relationship. When you see you are in absolute relationship with everything and everyone. You can keep nothing hidden. What is hidden is only pushed out of awareness, in other words pushed into the subconscious. Secrets and private thoughts will seem to be acted out and it will not be a happy dream.  So, let’s see how this understanding can be experienced with the movie ‘Fatima.’

The movie Fatima

This movie is set in the rural areas of Portugal over a century ago. Three children; Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta experience visions together. This is a beautiful teaching. Cracking the mind open towards the light and towards holy relationship. It's not so much a man and a woman coming together as soulmates, but instead three children. Mother Mary appears to them with a message that the three children are to strengthen in awareness by teaching it in order to learn it.

The movie takes place in the context of World War One and just before the Spanish Flu. A time of devastation. The horrific perceptions of war, with bodies being torn apart. Many young men are dying. A time of poverty in Europe and an extreme time in human history, relevant to today with the pandemic in terms of extreme conditions for survival of the body.

Amidst this context, three children have a vision. They see and speak with Mother Mary. Their parents, religious teachers, politicians and villagers all have different reactions. This movie experience can be seen as a crack, an opportunity for us to get in touch with the greater context of spiritual awakening and to have a piercing in the mind. With movies we can learn from the experiences of others.

All teachings are pointing to transcendence beyond time and space, NOT to improve the world. You can remember God, remember the light. You must have a direct experience of the light to know there is nothing the world offers that compares.

In this movie, three children see the visions because they are ready and willing. They are not frightened.

You will see the happy dream when you are willing and ready. Nothing is being held back but by your own choice, your own fear and investment in attack, judgements and doubts. Your choice for individual separate identity. The mother of one child is praying for the safe return of her son from the war. She is focused on this outcome in the world.

Prayer is the medium of miracles. You don't need careers to reach God. You don't need special relationship partners to reach God. You don't need possessions to reach God. You don't need physical comforts and conveniences, to reach God.

Prayer is the medium of miracles. Miracles light the way. Miracles make your mind ready for a revelation of direct experience of God's love. We're not talking about concepts here, we're talking about an actual direct experience of the light.

You need to pray. Prayer is the solution.

The Ladder of Prayer

In the movie Fatima, the mother character is praying fervently for the return of her son. The mother is quite fixated on this outcome. She wants her son to come back safe from the war and she's prepared to do any kind of sacrificial prayers or whatever it takes to pray to Mother Mary to deliver her son back.

The secret of true prayerWar is probably the most extreme example in terms of perception of the belief in separation from God. So, you get a sense from this movie about the ladder of prayer that Jesus talks about in The Song of Prayer where Jesus says, “As long as you believe in this world, you cannot help but pray for specifics.” Praying for this one to get well. Praying for that one to have a safe trip. Or, in the case of this movie, pray for my son to make it home safe from the war. And yet, war is probably the most extreme example in terms of perception of the belief in separation from God for most people on the planet when they see what seems to be the horrors of war, of humans fighting against other human beings, killing other human beings in droves, for some kind of cause or something in the world. And so we are going to see that one of the messages of Mother Mary to the children is basically that she's going to save my son. She's talking about, ‘Jesus is offended.’

Why is Jesus offended by anything in the world? Why would Jesus be offended by a world war when Christ is the pure light and knows the oneness. Christ is one with God. Basically she's saying, ‘Pray…I'm calling you to pray.” Because it's not that Christ is offended by the World War. The mind that is sleeping and dreaming is offended by its belief in the ego and the belief in something other than God.

Prayer is the medium of miracles

When you pray you're praying to heal the offense in your own mind, which is the ego. You're praying to let go of a death wish. You're praying to let go of that which never has and never will have anything to do with God. You're praying to let go of the separation.

Prayer is the medium of miraclesWhen you pray you're praying to heal the offense in your own mind, which is the ego. You're praying to let go of a death wish. You're praying to let go of that which never has and never will have anything to do with God. You're praying to let go of the separation.

We have three children off in the fields and Mother Mary has come to say, ‘My son is offended, and you need to pray.’ Well, I don't think the message is any different for those studying A Course in Miracles. You are offended by your partners, your children, politicians and their actions, the pollution of this world, the divisions, the different political polarities, and countries, by military coups taking over democratic countries, by cancer or all seeming forms of sickness then you are offended by the light. It's the ego awareness that is taking offense. And it's a fear of the light.

The problem is not in the world. The problem isn't with your partner or your neighbor. If anyone is offended by anything in this world then they are offended because they are holding onto the ego belief system. And we're going to have beautiful Mother Mary come and say to us, ‘Pray, pray...Use the power of prayer.’ She's going to deliver the same message of A Course in Miracles, "Prayer is the medium of miracles." Prayer is the medium of miracles. Miracles light the way to Awakening. Miracles make your mind ready for a revelation and direct experience of God's love. We're not talking about concepts here. We're talking about an actual direct experience of the light. That's what Mother Mary is offering. She is a symbol. She has a message that’s saying, ‘You need to pray.
