Question:
Is the special function of the Holy Spirit to translate reality into forms?
Answer:
No Beloved One. This is a very basic error. The Holy Spirit's function is NOT about "translating reality into forms"—quite the opposite. The Holy Spirit reinterprets the dream as error is brought to truth and darkness is brought to light, not vice versa. Understanding this is fundamental to Awakening. It is impossible to bring truth to illusion or reality to fantasy. That is a fundamental teaching of “A Course in Miracles.”
As ACIM states:
You who have spent your life in bringing truth to illusion, reality to fantasy, have walked the way of dreams. For you have gone from waking to sleeping, and on and on to a yet deeper sleep. Each dream has led to other dreams, and every fantasy that seemed to bring a light into the darkness but made the darkness deeper. Your goal was darkness, in which no ray of light could enter. And you sought a blackness so complete that you could hide from truth forever, in complete insanity. What you forgot was simply that God cannot destroy Himself. The light is you. Darkness can cover it, but cannot put it out. T-18.III.1:1-8
The Holy Spirit does not see the body as you do, because He knows the only reality of anything is the service it renders God on behalf of the function He gives it. T-8.VII.3.6
The Bible says,”The Word (or thought) was made flesh." Strictly speaking, this is impossible, since it seems to involve the translation of one order of reality into another. Different orders of reality merely appear to exist, just as different orders of miracles do. Thought cannot be made into flesh except by belief, since thought is not physical. T-8.VII.7:1-4
All figures in the dream are idols, made to save you from the dream. Yet they are part of what they have been made to save you from. Thus does an idol keep the dream alive and terrible, for who could wish for one unless he were in terror and despair? T-29.IX.3:1-3 In gentle laughter does the Holy Spirit perceive the cause, and looks not to effects. How else could He correct your error, who have overlooked the cause entirely? He bids you bring each terrible effect to Him that you may look together on its foolish cause and laugh with Him a while. You judge effects, but He has judged their cause. And by His judgment are effects removed. T-27.VIII.9:1-5
Bringing illusion to truth, or the ego to God, is the Holy Spirit's only function. T-14.IX.1.4
The Holy Spirit reaches from the Christ in you to all your dreams, and bids them come to Him, to be translated into truth. He will exchange them for the final dream which God appointed as the end of dreams. W-pII.6.4 The major difficulty that you find in genuine forgiveness on your part is that you still believe you must forgive the truth, and not illusions. W-pl.134.3
This metaphysical teaching is essential to experiencing forgiveness as it is, and not merely intellectualizing according to the ego's plan. It is the ego that counsels that Holy Spirit "...goes about translating reality into forms..." Forgiveness is a retranslation of perception (Atonement) that is the gateway to Reality, Which is Abstract and Eternal. Reality, or Knowledge, is far beyond perception and cannot be translated or "shrunk down" to form or perception. Without this understanding, there is no experience of forgiveness, and it remains an ego concept which serves to make the error real in awareness or reinforce that illusions are true. Error must be brought to truth, and not vice versa. Reality cannot be translated into or brought into forms.
