SearchWhat does "Awareness of God" mean in ACIM?
Question:
In terms of perception—that I as a student of ACIM might understand—can you explain the idea ”Awareness of God," as it is used in this passage: "Forgiveness thus undoes what fear has produced, returning the mind to the awareness of God.”? Or is awareness of God is an inner experience totally beyond human perception?
Answer:
Awareness of God is experienced in the Holy Instant and is indeed "an inner experience totally beyond human perception." The awareness of God, or Revelation, is an experience of total oneness, love, wisdom, peace, communication, and understanding, yet the experience cannot be accurately described or explained for it is beyond words. The goal of accepting Atonement or complete forgiveness is perceptual and could be called the gateway to the Holy Instant, though this is a change of mind and has nothing to do with the horizontal or linear distortion of perception. The Holy Instant, however, is the Present Moment in which the Great Rays are apparent and this Light is far beyond the five senses and the images of consciousness. All perception is the past, even right-minded perception, the forgiven world, or the real world spoken of in ACIM. Forgiveness, one might say, is a purified form of the past, devoid of judgment or selection, for it views the cosmos from a Single Perspective. It is the Perspective that there was only one illusion of wholeness, a unified tapestry without increments of time or space.
Ideas leave not their source, and just as in Heaven Christ resides in the Mind of God, in healed perception the world has not left the mind of the Dreamer. Dream softly with the Holy Spirit a Dream of non judgment, for such is the Perspective of the happy dream of forgiveness. And from this Gentle Dreaming the past gives way to the Holy Instant, and the Holy Instant gives way to Eternity.
Blessings forever,
David
