This is the ultimate people-pleasing movie. Gaylord Focker attempts to join with and impress his future in-laws when meeting them for the first time. His people-pleasing antics are a recipe for self-doubt and uncertainty. Every dishonest response and attempt to be liked backfires until finally there is no option but to come clean and bring an end to the approval-seeking fiasco. The only thing that makes any sense is love and the willingness to be direct. When this is the case, the witnesses turn from suspicious to supportive.
