This is a hilarious movie for seeing the intense rage underlying the face of innocence. The ego pushes the cause for rage out onto others and then waves the magic wand of forgetfulness so that we avoid having to look within for the real source of anger and guilt: our anger at God for not granting reality to the world we made.
Meet Charlie, the ultimate nice-guy cop and people pleaser. He gets no respect from others because he does not respect himself. He maintains a job as a patrol officer to gain the respect he so desperately wants, “but every day a hundred little things make small assaults” (T-31.V.3) on him that push him to finally crack.
As Charlie gets closer to the escape hatch of awakening, his split personality bounces back and forth until he is able to integrate his dark side and learn how to be truly helpful, how to be direct and say what he means and mean what he says. As his underlying rage is healed and released, the witnesses to his healed mind appear as fellow patrol officers saluting him for the courage and bravery it takes to be who he truly is.
