“I hate myself so much, so I have to point that hate outward, towards you!”

The only reason we attack others physically and emotionally is because we’re acting out what is going on inside ourselves. In the video clip, the bully expresses that his vicious behavior is the only defense mechanism he has against deeper, more terrifying problems buried inside of him. So if we are afraid to express what’s truly going on inside, then are we ever really ourselves? And are we unconsciously deciding to let fear lead the way, and run our lives?

Jason Warwick reminds us that, “acknowledgment of fear is probably the biggest step, just seeing where you’re afraid rather than beating yourself up for it.” We must work with our thoughts, as the correction of fear is only at the level of mind. Here’s a helpful excerpt from the book A Course in Miracles, “You may believe that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you think, because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice.” T-2.VI.2:5-6.

A beautiful start to experiencing peace of mind is to first get in touch with your thoughts and emotions, allowing them up and giving them over to the Higher Self.
